How Kramena handles your information

Who is responsible

Kramena is developed and operated by Raahel Baig. This policy explains how the Kramena mobile app and its catalog service handle information.

On-device reading data and Personal Books

Kramena stores your reading plans, progress, history, highlights, notes, saved words, appearance preferences, daily episode time, downloaded books, and any recaps or character guides you open on your device.

Importing a Personal Book for cloud preparation requires a Kramena Account. The EPUB you select is uploaded over an encrypted connection to private storage on Amazon Web Services, where Kramena prepares private reading artifacts and makes them available only to your Account, including for recovery on another supported device.

Creating an Account does not by itself upload your local reading progress, highlights, notes, or saved words. Catalog reading remains available without an Account.

Optional accounts and Membership

You may voluntarily create a Kramena Account by providing an email address. Amazon Cognito stores the account identity and Amazon Simple Email Service delivers one-time sign-in codes. Kramena does not ask you to create a password.

An account is required if you import a Personal Book for cloud preparation or choose Lifetime Membership. When you use a paid feature, RevenueCat and the applicable app store process product identifiers, purchase status, and transaction information needed to provide and restore access. Kramena does not receive your full payment-card details.

Personal Book cloud preparation

Kramena uses OpenAI services to process Personal Book content and metadata. This processing prepares Episodes and related reading material and checks their quality. OpenAI processes the information on Kramena's behalf under the API data controls configured for the service.

Before upload, you must confirm that you lawfully possess the EPUB and have the right to have it processed for your personal use. Kramena does not promote, publish, sell, repurpose, add to the Catalog, or use Personal Book content to create Catalog material.

Operational records may include opaque Account, purchase, Job, timing, usage, state, and error identifiers needed to operate and secure preparation. Ordinary operational logs and errors are not intended to contain Book prose, credentials, or private download links.

Catalog requests

When you browse or download a catalog book, Kramena makes an encrypted HTTPS request to its catalog service hosted on Amazon Web Services. The service receives the requested path or book identifier and technical request information such as an IP address, timestamp, and network or device metadata needed to deliver and protect the service.

You can browse and read the Catalog without creating a Kramena Account. Catalog requests do not receive your Personal Book content, reading progress, highlights, notes, or saved words and are not used to convert Personal Books into Catalog titles. Operational request logs may be used to diagnose failures, prevent abuse, and maintain service security.

Episode ratings and discussions

If you choose to rate, react to, comment on, or upvote an Episode discussion, Kramena stores that activity with your Account. Comments appear to other signed-in readers with your display name and handle. Ratings and reactions are shown in aggregate, while upvote totals appear on comments.

To keep earlier discussions spoiler-safe, Kramena stores the furthest Episode you have started for each Catalog Book after you first participate. A supported device must connect to Kramena before opening a later Episode so this marker can be updated. You may edit a comment only while its Episode is your furthest started Episode; you may still delete your own earlier comments.

Discussion contributions remain until you delete your comments or request Account deletion. Ratings, reactions, upvotes, and the minimum progress record needed to enforce discussion safety may remain until Account deletion, subject to limited security, abuse-prevention, backup, and legal retention.

Reading Groups

When you create or join a Reading Group, Kramena stores the group name and description, membership, organizer role, invitation code, selected Catalog Books, shared Episode schedule, and group discussion activity with your Account.

A Group Episode Discussion is available only to current members of that Reading Group. Members see each other's display names and handles. The same minimum progress record used for public Episode spoiler safety also governs private group conversations.

Reading Group records and conversations remain available as the group's shared history. Comments may be deleted by their authors, and Account deletion requests apply to Account-linked Reading Group information subject to limited security, abuse-prevention, backup, and legal retention.

Notifications and file access

If you enable notifications, Kramena schedules one daily reading reminder locally at the time you choose. Notification permission is optional, and the current version does not intentionally request a remote push-notification token.

EPUB import uses the Android or iOS system document picker. Kramena can read only the file you select and does not request broad access to your storage.

How information is used

Kramena uses information only to provide the reading experience, remember your choices, authenticate an Account, privately prepare and deliver a Personal Book, provide and restore paid features, deliver Catalog content, operate optional Episode discussions and Reading Groups, schedule an optional reminder, diagnose service failures, and protect its services.

Kramena does not sell personal information, show advertising, build advertising profiles, or use your reading activity for marketing. Kramena uses PostHog for product analytics and error reporting to understand feature use and diagnose problems.

Product analytics and error reporting

Kramena sends selected app actions, such as opening the app, starting a Book, opening or completing an Episode, signing in, and using paid features, to PostHog in the European Union. These events use a random installation identifier; after sign-in, events may be linked to an opaque Account identifier, including across devices. Signing out separates subsequent activity from that Account.

Reports include technical app and device information, app version, screen names, Membership status, event times, and diagnostic stack traces. Geographic enrichment is disabled, although PostHog receives the network IP address when delivering requests. JavaScript error messages and request details are filtered before transmission; native crash reports may contain operating-system diagnostic details.

We do not intentionally send names, email addresses, Book titles or prose, notes, highlights, saved words, passwords, sign-in codes, payment details, or private download links to analytics. Session recordings and automatic tap capture are disabled. Selected usage events are separate from the reading progress stored on your device.

Analytics may be queued on your device while offline and delivered later. Data is retained according to the configured PostHog project retention; the initial free project uses a one-year retention period. Contact us to request deletion of Account-linked analytics.

Service providers

PostHog processes the product analytics and diagnostic information described above using its EU service.

Amazon Web Services hosts the public Catalog API, Account service, databases, and private Personal Book storage and processing infrastructure. AWS may process email addresses, sign-in messages, Personal Book source and prepared material, and technical request information on Kramena's behalf.

OpenAI processes Personal Book content and metadata needed for preparation and quality checks. RevenueCat and the applicable app store process paid-feature and transaction status when those features are used. Android, iOS, and Google Play may also process information independently under their own privacy policies.

Retention and deletion

On-device information remains until you remove it in Kramena, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app. Clearing or uninstalling the app does not delete Account-scoped Personal Books from Kramena's cloud.

Personal Book source uploads and prose-bearing preparation workspaces are kept only for the configured recovery period after successful preparation, then deleted. Verified prepared Books, covers, Companion material, provenance, and verification results remain while the Personal Book remains in your Account.

When you request deletion of a Personal Book, Kramena places it in a configured recovery grace period. You may restore it during that period; after the grace period, Kramena permanently removes the Account-scoped source and derived content under its control. Minimum purchase, allowance, security, and audit facts may remain where needed to prevent duplicate charges or fraud, meet accounting obligations, resolve disputes, and comply with law.

Account records remain until you request Account deletion. Purchase transaction records may also be retained by RevenueCat or the app store under their own policies. Contact us to request Account or Personal Book deletion if the relevant in-app control is unavailable.

Operational service logs, when generated, are kept only as long as reasonably necessary for reliability, security, abuse prevention, or legal obligations. You may contact us about a privacy request, although technical logs may not contain enough information to identify a particular person.

Security

Kramena uses HTTPS for service requests, private AWS storage for Personal Book material, authenticated Account-scoped delivery, and the operating system's app sandbox for local data. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. We limit access and use safeguards appropriate to the service.

Children

Kramena is a general-audience reading app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Kramena's features or data practices change. We will revise the effective date and show material changes in the app or on this page.
